Handling interstate divorce matters for over thirty years.

Dealing with a divorce can be notoriously difficult. At my Great Neck law firm, Barton R. Resnicoff, Attorney at Law, I use my over 30 years of family law experience when handling New York and interstate divorce issues for my clients. Many of my interstate divorce clients are from out-of-state and are confused by having to deal with New York laws and courts. Divorce is disorienting enough without having to grasp matters of interstate jurisdiction. I also represent clients in cases where the case began in New York and they have since left the jurisdiction.

Clients trust me, attorney Barton Resnicoff, to provide them with advice and guidance in plain language that they can understand. I offer experienced, knowledgeable counsel on a number of issues, including conflict of law questions that apply in interstate cases, such as:

Property Division

Interstate property division cases tend to be very complex. Questions of jurisdiction, of which court has authority to make decisions in a case, add an extra layer of complexity to even the most routine matter. All elements of the couple's marital property must be examined, including any potentially hidden assets. In New York, marital assets are divided by an equitable distribution. This means they are divided fairly, on the particular facts of the case, but not necessarily equally. However, if the assets or property are located in other states, jurisdictional questions will have to be answered before a decision on the asset may be made.

I can help you obtain proper asset valuation, business valuation and an accurate overall picture of the assets in the marital estate and which state's laws apply to specific assets in your case.

At my office, I also help clients with interstate child custody and support issues that may arise within the context of a divorce or between parents that have never been married.

To discuss your options for seeking an end to your interstate divorce or other family law issues, contact a New York lawyer at the office of Barton R. Resnicoff in Great Neck today. My experience is an asset to your case.
